November KM’s 4 Charity Challenge
Watermark Living and its Chatswood joint venture partner, Pariter, pushed their bodies physically to their limits last November in a handicapped “kilometre challenge” which saw 14 team members engage in friendly competition in the interests of raising funds and donations for charity.
Participants logged 2,967km during the month of November (equating to an impressive 211km’s per person), through their choice of running, cycling, swimming and walking – appropriate age and activity based handicaps were introduced to level out the playing field. The collective team benefited from friendly banter and improved exercise and health benefits.
The following charities were personally selected by the challenge victors, which received $13,000 in donations:
- PA Research Foundation (to be directed towards ACC cancer) – The PA Research Foundation, linked to the Princess Alexander Hospital, is an Australian Non for Profit Organization that raises funds for lifesaving research to develop better diagnoses and treatments for some of Australia’s biggest health challenges.
- R U OK? is an Australian non-profit suicide prevention organisation, founded by advertiser Gavin Larkin in 2009. It revolves around the slogan “R U OK?” (gramogram for “are you okay?”) and advocates for people to have conversations with others. The organisation holds a dedicated R U OK? Day annually on the second Thursday of September, which encourages Australians to connect with people who have emotional insecurity, to address social isolation and promote community cohesiveness.
- Whatability – a NFP working towards better community access for people living with a disability or diminished capacity and the families who love and care for them.
