Watermark X OzHarvest – Giving Back Day
Residents at Watermark’s Castle Cove community engaged in a purpose driven initiative, aimed towards charitable giving and having some fun, and hopefully learning how to master the perfect pizza.
ABOUT two million people rely on food relief every year in
Australia and as the numbers grow so too does their hunger.
That astounding figure drove Watermark and chef Lucio De Falco to warm up the wood-fired oven, along with residents of the Castle Cove retirement village, who shovelled out pizzas to feed people in need.
“We wanted to do something with OzHarvest and instead of providing leftovers we wanted to serve them fresh food,” Mr Enzo Marchione of Watermark Living said.
“Lucio is very compassionate and was keen to get involved when we asked him.”
A point echoed by the Lucio Pizzeria chef, who said he saw poverty near his shop all the time and wanted to make a difference.
“Australia is a beautiful country but we are often so busy that we don’t take the time to notice people who need our help,” Mr De Falco said.
Over 400+ pizzas were made under the guidance of Lucio De Falco, owner / chef of Australia’s best pizzeria (Lucio Pizzeria), which special guest appearances from OzHarvest Founder & CEO Ronni Kahn. “We’ve never had a community fire up pizzas and fold boxes for us but everyone got involved and, by 5pm, four organisations including Edward Eagar Lodge had pizzas,” Khan said.
